A walk across the moor

31/01/2024, By Staff

Two weeks ago we had a few cold days, in southern England. At eight in the morning my car was showing a temperature of -5° C and the sky was clear. This convinced me to go out for a walk, maybe even reach 5,000 steps, or the fabled 10,000; Staines Moor was the obvious choice, since I had not been there for more than six months. So I went for a walk, Tuesday. Left the village at 8:10,...

Kerbside food bins available at the Spelthorne Council

08/12/2023, By Staff

The website of the Spelthorne Council has some interesting news, published on 28/11/2023: food bins are now available for free at the Council. They mean both the grey caddy (usually kept in the kitchen) and the green one to be put outside (on Tuesdays, if you live in Stanwell Moor). The locations where food bins can be collected are: - The Greeno Centre, Shepperton - The Fordbridge Centre,...

February 2021, floods in Stanwell Moor

09/02/2021, By Staff

It's January, and Hithermoor Road is flooded, a January tradition indeed. I wonder if Ladbrokes will take a bet for this event in 2022. Note: the flooding, near Whatmore Close, lasted about two days and took place the past weekend. The road is now open to vehicular traffic and...

What will happen to Stanwell Moor in 2018?

21/12/2017, By Staff

2017 and the past few years have not been kind to the sweet, nice village that is Stanwell Moor. We lost buses, we used to have free connections to Heathrow Airport, our important and whingeing neighbour. We recently lost Vermeulens, the garden centre, one of the few reasons people used to come to Stanwell Moor and maybe spend a few pounds at the Portuguese cafe or at The Anchor, our local pub....

An attempt to solve Stanwell Moor parking woes

17/06/2017, By Staff

Two or three weeks ago, this sign appeared in several locations in Stanwell Moor. For a few days Horton Road was devoid of the long line of parked cars that narrow the highway and force drivers to slow down. Then everything returned to normal. Taxi drivers - the intended audience of the signs - returned to Horton Road when they noticed that the signs were not...

Spelthorne Crime Summit, 22/09/2015: my notes

22/08/2016, By Staff

I know, I know, it's 2016, not 2015. I am publishing my notes on the 2015 Spelthorne Crime Summit eleven months too late. For instance, Kevin Hurley is not any more the PCSS for Surrey. Well, read this page and tell me if you heard about the "Joint Enforcement Team" lately... Stanwell Moor is part of the Spelthorne borough, so I went to the Spelthorne Crime Summit, on 22nd September 2015, to learn more about how crime is being fought in our borough. Here are my notes. The summit...

The 7:40PM 446 bus: lost somewhere?

15/08/2016, By Staff

Last week I went from Stanwell Moor to London four times, and four times I tried to come back home with the 446 Abellio bus due to leave Heathrow's Terminal 5 at 19:40. Twice the bus did not show up, leaving a bunch of foreign tourists and myself stranded. Luckily, the drivers of the RailAir 71 bus, which stops in Stanwell Moor Road, outside the village, accepted my ticket (and those of a family...

After bus 557, will Stanwell Moor lose the 441 as well?

02/07/2015, By Staff

Stanwell Moor is so close to Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5, yet so far. After recent consultations, it has been decried that bus 557, the only bus connecting Stanwell Moor with T5, will not stop in the village anymore. The only option, for those not wishing to walk to the airport (*), is to take the 441 on Stanwell Moor Road, which - despite the name - does not reach Stanwell Moor. But ... what...

Rubbish crisis in Stanwell Moor?

12/06/2015, By Staff

Stanwell Moor is not a large city: a small village of 1,300 people, with a post office, a pub, a hair stylist, a great Bangladeshi & Indian take away, a launderette, a few more businesses, a lot of quiet people (well.. about 1,300 of them!). So, one has to wonder: where does all this garbage come from? These garages - and the rubbish - are between Hithermoor Road and Benen-Stock Road....
